The history of cufflink

The cuff became an important display part of the shirt, and it only gradually existed after 1530 for the purpose of keeping out the cold.The sleeves were then folded upside down (an early version of the French fold), or a separate piece of cloth was attached to the wrist and connected with a string (which later became the cufflink cousin), so that the front of the cuff opened like a flower and was beautifully matched with different material colors.
